Sustainable Summer Camp
  • Identifying Unsustainable Practices
  • Eco-Teamwork
  • Flyer creation

Welcome to the city of Almoleg. This summer Laura and her friends have decided to collaborate with the town to promote social participation and the fight against climate change. Laura and her friends are very committed to this cause and want to pass it on to the rest of the citizens. This task is not going to be easy for them because the people in their town are notorious for unsustainable and unhealthy habits, a problem that more and more cities in their country are facing.

Laura and her group of friends have tried in previous summers to implement a Sustainable Youth Camp, but the city council would not give them permission. Finally, this year, they got permission to organise it.

They have little time, and the big companies are willing them to fail, but with your help, Laura and her friends will be able to overcome all the obstacles and hold the FIRST SUSTAINABLE YOUTH CAMP.

Your task will be to help Laura and the group make key decisions in the organisation of the camp as they try to make it attractive so that many young people will sign up.

Are you up to help them?

Laura and her friends are determined to make their sustainable summer camp a model of eco-friendliness. To ensure this, they need your assistance in identifying and eliminating unsustainable practices.

Participants gain awareness of both sustainable and unsustainable practices, emphasising the importance of making informed choices. The correct identification of unsustainable activities ensures that Laura and her friends can refine their plans for the summer camp, aligning every aspect with the principles of sustainability.

In your daily life, what small changes can you make to align with the principles of sustainable living, inspired by the activities you envisioned for the summer camp?

Laura and her friends must decide now where to camp. They decide to go hiking to try to find the perfect spot for their Summer Camp.  After a couple of hours, they find the perfect place. They are excited about the chosen campsite, but, while exploring the area, they noticed various items left behind that caught their attention.

Whoever had camped there before them, left behind different bins where they disposed of, and separated their waste. “There must be a waste disposal service near this campsite, what a great idea”, Laura mentions.

Most of us know about basic recycling, but do you separate recyclable items from all products? Do you really know where e.g. napkins go?  You can find out more about where your recycled products end up to raise awareness of the importance of this task.

After deciding the activities they can include in their camp and finding and preparing the perfect place to hold it, now it's time to spread the word. Laura and her friends have to create the camp flyer. Here they have to be creative and get the attention of the people in their town - a difficult task, remember. But that's okay because they have your help.

It's all well and good to do individual activities to improve our consumption habits and take care of the planet, but have you ever considered participating in a community activity? They can be of many kinds, and you can meet people who have the same interests as you, and you can learn a lot from other people.

We invite you to look for a local initiative that you like and participate in it, you won't regret it!

After much preparation, the day of the camp finally arrives. Laura and her friends are surprised at the number of people who have signed up and promise that they will organise another one next year, but that it is important to hold meetings of this kind throughout the year to improve as a city. Although not everyone shares Laura and her friends' vision, at least they have managed to change some people's attitudes, and others have become more aware. Remember, you can't change the whole system overnight, but we can make a positive impact by changing small things.

Thank you for your help during the organisation of the camp. Thanks to your support, Laura and her group of friends had a successful camp. During this process you have demonstrated your knowledge about consumption habits and sustainable lifestyles. Keep it up!
